For those who are dealing with pastors or churches that are trying to get on top of the sexuality matters, The River Conference recently held a stellar conference inviting Dr. Preston Sprinkle. Bishop Thomas reports that Dr. Sprinkle’s theology, practice of compassionate ministry and coaching to churches on how to approach the matter of LGBTQ matters is very much in line with the essential posture of the FMCUSA. Following is an event at which Preston will be presenting. Engaging Questions of Faith, Sexuality and Gender in the Church, Wednesday, October 18, 2017, 8:30am-4:00pm (lunch will be served), Registration begins at 8:00am, Pinnacle Conference Center; 3330 Highland Drive; Hudsonville, MI 49426. You can learn more about a complete description of the topics you can expect to be covered when you attend. (https://www.centerforfaith.com/programs/leaders-forums). Or you can buy one of Preston’s books on the matter. They are worth your review, familiarity and reference.
The topic of September's Ignite Intensive is Leading Change. This event is open to anyone in the conference who would like to come and it is highly recommended that pastors bring their leadership team. Both intensives will be held simultaneously from 6:30-8:30pm on September 25th. Dearborn will be hosting one and the other location is TBA. You are welcome to attend whichever location is closer to you.
September 15th and 19th's LDC cohorts are being merged into a single cohort for all of our lead pastors. This is a very important meeting where we will be establishing a two year plan for leadership development. It will take place in Spring Arbor Free Methodist Church's CFC-4 room from 9am-1pm on September 15th. Please join us then.
Many of you know Lance Witt. Lance has a friend who has been involved in developing a film that addresses the addiction to pornography and its blight upon our communities. And, we know that it is prevalent in our churches. If you would like to screen the film in its entirety before tonight, email email@example.com for the link. We would caution you not to just promote it unless you have viewed it. One person evaluating it said that it might not be for the spouse of a person struggling and is weighted upon pornography and its association with abuse, which we know is only a portion of the story. Get tickets and see if it's playing at a theater near you, here.
