Prayer for Mozambique
We call you to prayer for the people of Mozambique. Late last week, Cyclone Idai moved through Mozambique and into Zimbabwe and Malawi. Information coming in has been delayed since most cell coverage has been down in the affected areas.
Bishop Pedro Moiane recently communicated that 90% of the city of Beira (population 500,000) has been destroyed. Beira is the city where the Free Methodist Church has a Bible school, high school, and multiple churches. We know that at least one pastor lost his home and more than one church lost their building.
The devastation is ongoing as rains are flooding the rivers and coming down toward the coast with entire villages being swept away. There is concern about access to clean water and the potential outbreak of cholera.
Pray for our churches, the high school, and the hundreds, if not thousands of Free Methodists in the wake. Pray for Bishop Moine who will attempt to travel to Beira tomorrow to assess the damage and lead possible relief efforts.
If you wish to assist with relief efforts, you may give through the Bishops' Crisis Response Fund (Note: Mozambique Cyclone Relief).
